Wildcats third at Wolverine tourney



WOLVERINE - Glen LaLone tossed in 15 points with 12 rebounds and Marc LeBlanc added 13 points and 12 rebounds when the Alba boys varsity basketball team defeated Wolverine 58-48 on Friday,Dec. 29. The victory over the host team earned the Wildcats a third place finish in the Wolverine Christmas Tournament.

Derrick Marsh led the Alba scoring with 16 points. Marsh also had six rebounds and seven steals. Joe Milbocker contributed with five assists and LeBlanc had five steals.

"All in all everybody played pretty consistently and thatŐs what we like to see,Ó said Alba coach Mark Roberts. "They all came together and played as a team. You canŐt ask for any more than that.Ó

The Wildcats more than doubled up on Wolverine 19-8 at the end of the first quarter and held a 28-20 advantage at the half.

The lead stood 39-29 going into the fourth quarter,where the two teams each scored 19 points.

Vanderbilt 62 Đ Alba 33

Vanderbilt forged a 33-16 half time lead and stretched the margin to 50-20 at the end of three quarters when the Yellowjackets defeated the Wildcats 62-33 on Thursday,Dec. 28.

The opening round victory moved Vanderbilt into a championship game match up against the Traverse City Bulldogs.

LeBlanc (16 points) and Zack Milligan (eight points) paced the Alba offense.

"We werenŐt playing as a team. ThatŐs what happens when you donŐt play as a team,Ó said Roberts.

"Wolverine did an excellent jog of putting on the tournament. All the players,coaches and officials were great,Ó Roberts commented on the two day event.

Alba (2-4 overall,0-1 NLC) will be on the road for its next two games against Boyne Falls on Friday,Jan. 5,and Mackinaw City on Tuesday,Jan. 9.
