Obituaries PUBLISHED: He was born June 21, 1927, in Central Lake Township, the son of John and Gertrude (VanderArk) Veldkamp. Norm served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. On June 28, 1952, he married Wilma James in Flint where they made their home. They returned to Central Lake Township in 1974. Norm owned and operated Norm Veldkamp Trucking and Excavating in Flint and worked for the Antrim County Road Commission before becoming a partner in Drenth Brothers Inc. He enjoyed work, the outdoors, and being with family and friends. He was a faithful member of Belltower Reformed Church. He was a deeply committed follower of Jesus Christ, and he loved serving God and others. Surviving are his wife, Wilma; children Craig (Janell) Veldkamp of Flushing, Vicki (Dan) DeGraaf of Grand Rapids, Steve Veldkamp of Bloomington, Ind; five grandchildren, Nathan, Kate, Meghan; Bryce, Troy; sisters Betty (Al) Klooster of Hudsonville and Alice Doan of Flint, and a brother Versile ÔHaroldÕ (June) Veldkamp of Ellsworth. He was preceded by a sister, Freida Eckerle. The visitation was held at Hastings Funeral Home on Sunday. The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, at Belltower Reformed Church with the Rev. Kevin Karhoff and the Rev. Paul Copeland officiating. Burial was in Ellsworth Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Belltower Reformed Church or to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
