Two officials resign Mancelona positions

MANCELONA -Village officials are seeking applications for two positions, the appointed position of treasurer and the elected position of village trustee.

Village Treasurer Dennis Tereshinski resigned his position in order to return to his first love of detective work.

A two-year village employee, Tereshinski in his resignation letter, said the decision to move on was difficult to reach, but he anticipated assisting a new person for a reasonable transition period, perhaps a month.

"We hate to see you go and it has been a pleasure working with you as well,Ó President David Tucker said.

Officials will advertise for the position and members are to consider an appointment at a later date.

Both the clerkÕs and treasurerÕs positions do not need to be filled with residents of the village, Tucker said. At one time a recent village ordinance required that, but that was since superseded by state law. Village Council Member Jane MacDonald also tendered her resignation as a member, effective immediately.

MacDonald will be sent a letter from Clerk Dana Sudman accepting her resignation and thanking for the time she spent on the council. "It was a shame it had to come to this,Ó Tucker said.

The new applicant will serve in the position until Sept. 2007, at which time they can decide to run for the full term. Members also agreed to conduct a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 to review materials submitted by the prospective candidates.

In other business, members named Kathleen Kitchen to a vacancy on the Mancelona Downtown Development Authority. She replaces Neva Marconeri, who resigned from the board.

DDA representative Mike Biehl said the board deliberated over the two applicants, Kitchen and Cherie Hogan, and the vote was unanimous in favor of Kitchen. Council members had earlier stated since Hogan was passed over previously, they hoped the DDA would consider her again. "I really think we need to weigh that,Ó President Pro-Tem Robert Wilcox said. "She has shown interest twice in this position and my only concern is that if she has shown interest twice, I would like to see her on it. That is just my comment.Ó

Council member Kathy Altrock said, following WilcoxÕs comment, she had spoken with Hogan and she had indicated she did not have enough time to serve.

"She did not feel like she would be able to take the appointment and suggested we ought to let Kathleen do it,Ó Altrock said.

KitchenÕs appointment was approved unanimously, with council member Judy Eschedor absent.
