Sports PUBLISHED:
Onaway scored a major upset over Joburg on Jan. 17, and they were looking to do the same against Central Lake. The Cardinals led 15-14 after the first quarter, but the Trojans battled back to take the lead at halftime, 26-25. The third quarter was all Central Lake, as the Trojans outscored the Cardinals 21-13 and opened up a 9-point lead going into the final frame. "Defensively we showed up to play," Becker said. "We knew we had to stop a very solid Onaway ball club. We were up to the challenge and go the job done. "Our kids were prepared and they (understood) the task in front of them." Jasmine Hines was behind the wheel of the Trojan steamroller once again, as she put up 41 points and hauled in 19 rebounds. She shot 61 percent from the floor (17-of-28) and 78 percent from the free throw line (7-of-9). Nikki McMichael contributed 7 points and 6 assists in the win. Against Inland Lakes, Central Lake finished the first quarter up 18-4 and never looked back. Hines had 31 points and 13 rebounds in that contest, and McMichael knocked down 9 points and had 5 assists. Nikki Korb and Michelle Edwards each had 7 points, with Korb also coming away with 7 rebounds. Central Lake (12-0) was at Bellaire last night (Tuesday) and travels to Pellston tomorrow (Thursday). |
