She was born Jan. 8, 1925 in Bellaire, the daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Sisson) Ward.

Dorothy graduated from Central Michigan University, and taught Home Economics for many years in Wisconsin. Her greatest enjoyment was being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. On Nov. 30, 1945 she married Rodney Bartsch who preceded her in death in 1982. On Oct. 22, 1988 she married Maurice R. Schmidt who survives. Also surviving are four children; Charles (Connie) and David M. (Andrea) all of Bellaire, Christine (Jurgen) Adam and Cheryl Owen all of Minneapolis, Min.; three stepchildren, Samuel Schmidt of Caledonia, Kim (Laura) Schmidt of Torch Lake Twp.; one step daughter Patricia (Irvin) Winkle of Prescott; one brother Daryl (Robbie) Ward of Fla.; one sister Patricia (Kai) Erickson of Bellaire, 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at the Bellaire Wesleyan Church. Pastor Steve Eccles officiated. Interment will take place this spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire. Arrangements were handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
