James W. Armstrong, beloved father, grandfather, U.S. veteran and friend, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 80, on Jan. 29, 2008. His loving wife, Patricia, predeceased him in 1974. Jim is survived by his seven children, Kevin (Aline) Armstrong, Kim (Denny) Martin, Colleen (Nick) Farran, Kyle (Joe) Breech, Bridget (Don) Greenbauer, Tricia (John) Alonso and Pagiel (Dave) Reed. Born in Bellaire, Jim raised his family in Grand Rapids and later returned to Bellaire to enjoy his years of retirement. Jim was active with his church choir, enjoyed watching nature, gardening and helping anyone in need.

A gathering in celebration of his life and our love for him was held on Friday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. at Bellaire Community United Methodist Church.

The family received friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Family also received friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. A private burial will be held at Graceland with the immediate family. Memorials may be directed to the church. Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
