Adam McCully



Adam McCully, 83, of Clam Lake, died peacefully with his family by his side on Feb. 2, 2007, at his home.

He was born on July 13, 1923, in Detroit, the son of Adam M. and Harriet (McFadden) McCully.

Adam was a paper boy for the Detroit News and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard the battleship Iowa. He attended Western Michigan University in Navy Officers training and transferred to the University of Michigan where he received his BA in 1947.

In 1947, he started his own business, McCully Egg Company, in Detroit. He and his brother, Bill, expanded the business to include branches in Liberty Center, Ohio, Grand Rapids and Kalkaska. After retirement he and his wife, Gerry, spent winters in Lakeland, Fla., and summered at Clam Lake. He was a member of the VFW and the Elks Club in Lakeland. He returned to Clam Lake and was a member of the VFW in Alden and then Kalkaska for the last 15 years.

On June 29, 1946, in Kalamazoo, he married Geraldine Carley who survives. Also surviving are his children, Thomas John (Paula) McCully, Harriet Irene (Michael) Parsons, Adam Dale (Deb) McCully, Carolyn Sue (Dan) McGlinn, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Memorial services took place on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Alden United Methodist Church where he was a member. Pastor Chuck Williams officiated.

Interment will take place in Helena Township Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alden United Methodist Church or to Munson Hospice.
