Central Lake clinches Ski Valley title

Beats Alba in first round of districts

CENTRAL LAKE - The first prize is in the bag, and the journey to claim the second one is already underway.

With their convincing 75-24 victory over Forest Area last Tuesday night, the Central Lake Trojans officially became the 2008 Ski Valley Conference champions.

Central Lake played inspired against the Warriors, jumping out to a 30-7 lead after the first quarter. By halftime, it was 49-13.

Jasmine Hines had a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. Michelle Edwards added 19, Nikki McMichael knocked down 11 and Nikki Korb recorded 10.

Hot off their blowout of the Warriors, Central Lake finished off the regular season at home versus Boyne Falls and came away with another big win, 6917.

Central Lake put three players in double figures with the win. Hines had 25 points, Korb had 16, and Edwards recorded 13. Hines also pulled down 16 rebounds.

Central Lake survived their first test of the postseason on Monday, beating Alba by a score of 76-31. Hines had 29 points and 18 rebounds to lead the way once again. Edwards put up 20 points, and Korb added 16.

Central Lake plays again in the district finals on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 pm against the Wednesday night's winner between Bellaire and Ellsworth.
