Lancers beat Alba, Boyne Falls to extend winning streak to 3



Ê ELLSWORTH - Ellsworth's boys basketball team raised its record to 15-2 win two victories last week that raised the Lancers' winning streak to three straight games.

Ellsworth rolled past Alba, 62-35, last Wednesday night.

The Lancers jumped out to a 30-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

It was 40-20 at halftime and 54-30 after three quarters.

Jesse Steenwyk scored 14 points and ripped down 10 rebounds to lead the Lancers, while Jared Danbert added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists.

Nolan Howes also scored 12 points, and Jarod Steenwyk had 10 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.

"We came out of the gates firing," coach Tex Drenth said. "It was good to see. Everybody got lots of playing time, and that was good for a lot of those kids."

The Lancers also crushed Boyne Falls, 69-26, last Friday night. Ellsworth led 23-11 after the first quarter and 50-17 at halftime. It was 60-21 at the end of three.

Danbert led the Lancers in scoring with 16 points; Jarod Steenwyk had 15 points, and Tyler Ingalls added 11 points and 7 assists.

"First half against Boyne Falls was as well as we've played all year," Drenth said. "That was fun to watch. Everyone ran the floor well in transition."

The Lancers have two more games this week before getting ready for the district tournament, at Harbor Light and Wolverine.
