Obituaries PUBLISHED: Dick was born on Nov. 13, 1940, in Lansing, the son of Carl and Katie (Marquardt) Spence. He resided in Central Lake most of his life where he owned and operated the Treasure House Floral Shop and Santa's Secret Shop for many years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. Dick enjoyed art, flowers, and spending time with his family, especially his "Little Darlings" grandchildren. On Aug.2, 1969, in Central Lake, he married Marjorie Harter, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mary Spence of Central Lake, Danielle (Steve) Verellen of Central Lake, a brother, James (Nona) Spence of East Jordan, two sisters, Betty Spence, Linda Hilts, both of Central Lake, three grandchildren, Tyler Spence, Kaitlyn Verellen, Olivia Spence, two special nieces, Kathy (Don) Barnes and Vicki Hilts, all of Central Lake as well as many other nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and three nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor Max Tracey and Jean Thornell officiated. Visitation took place on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake.
