Obituaries PUBLISHED: Robert and his wife Laurine have a summer home in Bellaire and winter in Bradenton. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Mary Hoffman of Woodstock, Ill., and his oldest son, Robert D. Hoffman, Jr., of Bangor, Mich. Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wifeÊ and companion of 59 years, Laurine Mae Hoffman of Bradenton and Bellaire, daughter, Terrie Ash (Jerry) of Bradenton and Bellaire, son, Mark Hoffman (Lynne) of Lagrange, KY., and son James Hoffman (Kelly) of South Haven, Mich. Robert had 10 grand children, Jana, Ryan, Chad, Sarah, Jesse, Samuel, Benjamin, Adrienne, James and Jacob. He had five great grand children, Madison, Leah,ÊNathan, Michaela, and Addison. Robert Hoffman pursued his career in education for 33 years, with his first appointment as principal in a one room schoolhouse in Henrietta, Mich.,, to his last appointment as superintendent of Harbor Springs Public Schools. Robert served his country in the Pacific Theater during WW11 as a Navy Officer and Sea BEE. He also played college football and played for the Chicago Bears farm team. He enjoyed sharing the out of doors with his family at a wilderness cabin he builtÊand entertaining the children with songs and stories.Ê ÊHe loved his church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Robert was an officer in Kiwanis Club and Lions Club for years and felt rewarded by the ability to serve his community.Ê He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, boatingÊandÊchallenging everyone around him to be their best.Ê He will be forever cherished. Memorial services were held at Golf Lake Estates, Bradenton, Fla., on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at 2:00 p.m.
