BELLAIRE - John F. Kennedy summed it up quite well.

There are those that see things as they are and ask "why," while others see things as they could be and ask Òwhy notÓ? We are Êalways asking that one.

This time weÕre answering it - there is no reason "why not" when it comes to having a better sports section. The evolution is starting. Last week, Up North Publications hired Troy BruzewskiÊ as sports editorÊÊHe'll be working with the local staff to make some changes to the sports pages youÕre reading. This is Bruzewski's tenth year as a newspaper writer and he has Êbeen a part of sports staffs that were, and still are, providing superior sports coverage in their area.

"Starting this week, the sports sections will begin the process of Êchanging for the better and never has yourÊinformation been more vital," said Antrim County News editor Larry See Jr. "In the coming weeks, ourÊ sports staff is contacting all athletic directors and sports information.

Ò"f you are a part of school sports, from middle Êthrough high school, your teamÕs information should be here Êevery week. If coaches are willing to spend the time to call or e-mail at least once a week, the information will be in the paper," Bruzewski said.

"We are pleased to welcome Troy to our staff and look forward to what he will bring to our cadre of award-winning newspapers," See said. "He comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and excitement which we are harnessing to achieve our goal of making our sports pages as good as they can be.Ó"

Bruzewski welcomes all kinds of information for the pages, including information on students who have left the area and are continuing their careers in college. "Changes may seem slight in the coming weeks, but we will be improving on our already fine product each week. Hopefully, by the time spring sports start, every coach Êwile reporting their box scores and information each week. Coaches will have a direct e-mail link Ð sports@michigannewspapers.com to send information and scores from the spring events.

"WeÕll be visiting the schools to meet with each coach and provide them with a packet that explains what we are looking for and how to get it to us," Bruzewski said.

Bruzewski will be relocating to the Kalkaska area and will be working out of the Leader office in Kalkaska. In addition to the Antrim County News, he will also be writing for the The Town Meeting newspaper in Elk Rapids and The Citizen-Journal in Boyne City.
