Obituaries PUBLISHED: Harvey was born March 9, 1922 in Grand Rapids, the son of Antone and Julia (Hess) Jacobitz. On July 25, 1942, in Grand Rapids, he married Mary Ann VanStrien who survives. Harvey and Mary Ann have three children, Michael (Pauleve Benio) of Adrian, Janet (Robert) Person of Ellsworth, Mark (Jonnie) of Muskegon and grandchildren, Melissa Kincaid, Danny Person and Esther, Michael, Jennifer and John Mark Jacobitz. Harvey served as a Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he worked as a tool and die maker for the Ternsted Division of General Motors. With his partners Leslie Hunter and Thomas Parrish, Harvey started a successful retail sporting goods company in Flushing in 1965. He invented, manufactured and marketed a number of tools and accessories for sporting firearms. He retired to northern Michigan in 1978 where he was able to pursue his love of hunting and fishing. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 20, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Jerry Troyer officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring in Atwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix Senior Citizens Center, 06906 Norwood Rd., Charlevoix, MI 49720. |
