Walter T. Kennedy



Walter T. Kennedy, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away March 13, 2008 in Royal Palm Beach, Fla. Walter was born on Park Avenue in New York, New York to Thomas Kennedy and his wife Anna (Mahon) Kennedy on Oct. 2, 1924. Walter grew up in New York City later in Hasbrouk Heights, New Jersey. At age I8, he joined the U.S. Navy, PT Boat Division, serving in World War II.

Upon his return, he attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan. There he met the love of his life, Carol Jean Hermance. They wed on Aug. 4, 1948. Carol and Walter moved to Saginaw in 1953. Walter taught at Central Junior High School for 38 years. Walter received his Master's Degree + 60 from Michigan State University, and proudly wore his green MSU jacket ever since.While teaching at Central he coached football, basketball and track with many award-winning teams. Walter was a Sports Sage of Michigan.

Carol and Walter have four children: Michael Kennedy, his wife Juliana James (Minneapolis, Minn.); Kathleen Kennedy Brush and her husband Michael C. Brush (Freeland, Mich.); Laura Kennedy Miller, and her husband Timothy Miller (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.); and Kevin T. Kennedy (St. Petersburg, Fla.).

Together they have six grandchildren, Louisa (fiance Philip Kuljurgis), Jonathan Kennedy, Adam Kennedy Brush, Erin Brush, Andrew Kennedy Miller, Sam Miller Bobo and her husband DeAdrian Bobo. They have three great grandchildren, Kylee Kennedy Brush, Mason Bobo and Riley Bobo; also, sister-in-law, Gwen, nephews, Thomas and Cortland Kennedy and their children, brother-in-law Myron Hermance and wife Alicia, sister-in-law Nancy Grab and their families (New York).

After retirement, Walter enjoyed time with family and friends. He and Carol moved to their cottage on Clam Lake in Bellaire, Michigan. Walter loved it there. Walter and Carol spent many happy years there and in Saginaw. Many winters were spent in Royal Palm Beach, Fla. with their daughter Laura, and summers at the lake. Walter is previously deceased by his parents, beloved aunt Nina Kennedy and brother Tommy Kennedy.

His sense of humor and loving ways will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Walter was a devoted husband, father, loving grandparent, friend and all around good man. We all love you, Walter!

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church in Saginaw, where Walter and Carol were members for many years. Friends may greet the family 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church. Cremation has taken place. Private family internment Roselawn Cemetery Saginaw, following the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Central Middle Athletic Dept., Saginaw Bd. Of Ed. Also a memorial service will take place March 28, 2008 in Royal Palm Beach Florida, Palms West Presbyterian Church, 2 p.m.
