Ê Of course, that depends on what type of picking you're doing. Maybe a better way to put it would be choosing is hard work. More specifically, choosing among an exceptional class of players to be Up North All-Stars is hard work. But that's what my colleagues and I labored over the past few weeks.

In some cases, a player stood out because of his or her exceptional individual statistics. Other times, a player got the nod because we noticed that he always performed at his best when the game was on the line.

In the end, we just asked ourselves a basic question: If we were coaches, who would we want on our team?

Then we realized that we'd want all of them, and the process started over.
