Obituaries PUBLISHED: Martha was born in Mackinaw County, Mich.,Ê on April 23, 1913, the daughter of Charles W. Peterson and Martha Jane (Vanderhoof) Peterson. She was the youngest of seven children and was proceeded in death by all her brothers and sisters. She attended school in Central Lake and graduated in 1932. She married Lloyd Burgener on Feb. 21, 1940, in Tucson, Ariz. He died April 15, 1988. Martha is survived by one son, Lloyd E. Burgener and his wife, Phyllis, of Richland Center, Wis., two grandchildren, Lea-Ann, and her husband, Johann Frey of Charlevoix and John and his wife, Lori, of Evansville, Ind. Also two greatgrandchildren Dylan and Izabel Frey of Charlevoix. Martha had a special friendship of 45 years with Sam and Linda Zuber of Willow Hill, Ill. and was lovingly referred to as ÒGrandmaÓ to their children as well as to their spouses, children and grandchildren. She will be missed by her housecat referred to as "Kitty Girl." Martha moved to Richland County, Ill. from Arizona in 1941 where she and her husband farmed northeast of Olney. She worked at the Richland Memorial Hospital for many years in the O.B. Department and Emergency Room. She has many friends in the community who still recognize her for delivering their children and her dedicated work at the hospital. She was even known to deliver babies in blizzards when families could not get to the hospital. After moving to Antrim County in 1969, Martha worked at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility, till 1977, and served as an EMT with Upper Torch Lake Association. Martha returned to Olney, Ill. in 1990. Since that time she devoted many years volunteering with Hospice and Burgin Manor Nursing Home. She was a kind hearted, loving person who seemed to be called to serve others throughout her life. She requested no funeral services as this was fitting of her humble personality as she was never one to be noted for her good works, her kind deeds, nor did she ever have a need for sympathy from others. She was a dedicated friend who loved to play cards, especially pinochle. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was a strong, faith-filled individual who always spoke openly accepting death, but was willing to fight to live her life to the fullest till her final day. She will be sadly missed by family and friends whose lives sheÕs touched so deeply.
