The daughter of Clyde and Pearl (Choisser) Maxel, she was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Eldorado, Ill. She married William F. Kern in Detroit on July 21, 1953.

Doris loved the northwestern area of Michigan, and she and her husband moved permanently to Bellaire from Detroit in 1984. She enjoyed watching television, cooking and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her daughter and son, Michele (Michael) Solomon of Huntington and Michael (Mary) Eberhardt of Traverse City, and two grandchildren, Amelia (Michael) Adamo of California and Jason Eberhardt of Michigan.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Vincent C. Eberhardt in 1944 and her second husband, William F. Kern in 1995.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 5, 2007, at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 1 p.m. The Rev. Steve Eccles will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.
