Sports PUBLISHED:
Leading the way was junior Ashton Fisher, who ran a leg on the winning 3200 meter relay, won the mile in a blistering 4:39, and capped off his evening by dominating the field in the open 3200 with a finish in 10:14. "It was cool to win the mile and two mile against really good competition," Fisher said. "It (his mile time) was decent. I'm definitely not upset with it that's for sure." Fisher said he want to go undefeated this season - including at the state championships. In the mile, he thinks he'll have to get his time down to around 4:20 to win a state title. "I want to run faster, but hopefully 4:20 will do it," he said. Ellsworth coach Kirk Ikens was also impressed with Fisher's performance. "It shows he got his miles in over the winter," he said. "That (4:39) is a very good time." Jared Danbert, Juston Weis and Burton Jones joined Fisher on the 3200 relay team, which won in 8:45. Danbert picked up a third place in the 100 and placed fifth in the 200. Jones was fifth in the 400 and Weis placed second in the 800. "It was a good first meet of the year," Ikens said. "We have some kids that haven't done track before and are just starting to find out what it's like. I'm very encouraged." |
