BELLAIRE - This
week's focus for the Bellaire
softball team is getting
above the .500 mark.
The Eagles started their
season with a victory over
Bellaire Monday, April 16.
Logan Edgecomb pitched
all eight innings for Bellaire,
in its 9-8 win over Onaway.
She struckout 10 Onaway
hitters. Aubrey Hocking had
three hits to lead the Bellaire
offense.
Unfortunately for the
Eagles, they were shutout in
the second game, 11-0.
"We had smart bases running
and patience at the
plate (in game one)," Bellaire
coach Katie Verellen
said.
The loss, turned into a losing
streak however. Bellaire
dropped both in a doubleheader
against Pellston
Thursday, 14-4 and 11-1.
"Pellston was able to get
their bats going and hit the
gaps," Verellen said. "We
need to work on getting the
ball in quickly, on good base
hits."
The Eagles' record
dropped to 1-3 with the loss,
but they returned to victory
against the Rockford junior
varsity team at the Manton
Invitational.
Edgecomb struckout
seven, allowing five hits in
a 9-1 win in the opener. She
also had four hits and scored
three runs in the game.
Harbor Springs
handed Bellaire its only
loss of the tournament,
8-7 in the second game.
Amanda Rade led the
Eagles with two runs
scored.
"Too many errors in
the field," Verellen said.
"Our bats went cold for
three innings."
Amanda Shawl
pitched a victory in the
third game, defeating
host Manton 10-3 in the
final game. Edgecomb
and Megan Comben had
two hits each for Bellaire,
which committed
only one error in the
game.
