Adelaide Florence Richter



Adelaide Florence Richter, 83, of East Jordan, died on Sunday, April 27, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.

Ê Addie was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Saginaw County, to Martin Popp and Nellie (Schroeder) Popp.Ê She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1941, and worked for Saginaw Bearing Company during World War II.Ê In 1946, she married Charles Richter.

Ê Addie and Charlie had three sons, Thomas, of Onaway, Charles II of Traverse City and John of East Jordan; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

They made their homes in Saginaw, Clare, Midland, Palmetto, Fla. and East Jordan. Addie worked as an executive secretary for Dow Chemical Company until her retirement in 1981. She loved gardening and was a member of the East Jordan Garden Club and won many awards at flower shows. She could grow anything, and often rescued dying plants which others gave her to save. One of her last major projects was planting native wild flowers on the grounds of the Jordan River Watershed Center.Ê Addie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and made sure her sons all graduated with college degrees.

Addie was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wilson Township. Addie is survived by her sons; her daughter-in-law, Kerry Ovaitt; her grandchildren; great grandchildren and her sister Ruth Oakes of St. Charles. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles, and her brothers John and Loren.

A memorial service to celebrate Addie's life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at noon at the Jordan River Watershed Center in East Jordan. In lieu of flowers, Addie requested that memorials be sent to Hospice of Northwest Michigan.
