The flurry of runs started with Cheyenne McCorry, who had one base hit and went 1-for-3. Maggie Shanahan followed suit with the exact same numbers in a game that allowed many substitute players to grab valuable experience. The second game of the night was taken by Alba in a retaliation effort that left Emily Haues with a loss. She pitched the entire game for Mancelona, joined on the field by less experienced players allowing Dickerson to see how deep the well goes on a team that is "in the process of learning." The process continued on April 21 when Jo'Burg hosted Mancelona in a heated scrap over two games of play. Taking the first 7-6, Mancelona looked again to McCorry, who went 2-for-5, and Shanahan had a triple in the bottom of the seventh. Orman pitched the entirety, giving up 4 hits and 2 walks while letting loose 3 strikeouts, but took her first loss of the season in the second game. "We should have won that ball game," Dickerson said, reporting the score of the second at 6-2. "We had the bases loaded in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings and just couldn't get the hit. But the girls kept on scrapping. We played our hearts out." Mancelona looks to defend their home turf against the Central Lake on April 24. |
