Thomas Irving King



Thomas Irving King, 54, died on May 1, 2007, in Traverse City.

Tom was born in Flint on July 1, 1952, the son of John and June King. He attended St. Michael School through the tenth grade and then St. Agnes High School, graduating in 1970. Tom married the love of his life, Linda Wiertalla Schiller, in Brutus, Mich., on Nov. 26, 1986.

After working at the Chevrolet Metal Fab for several years, Tom found his true calling as a substance abuse counselor at Harbor Hall in Petoskey and then as a farmer with King Orchards in Central Lake.

Throughout his lifetime Tom had a wide circle of friends of all ages and walks of life who were drawn to him by his wonderful sense of humor and his love of people. He leaves behind his daughter Megan; his mother, June King of Bellaire; his sisters and brothers, Judy King of Kewadin, John and Betsy King of Central Lake, Martha King of Traverse City, Jim and Rose King of Kewadin, Katie and Larry Vessels of Marquette; nieces and nephews, Jack, Juliette, Frank, Michael, and Jim King, Brande Multhaupt, and Paul Vessels; in-laws Ruby and Maynard Wiertalla; step-children, Kendra and David Schiller; step-grandchildren Noah, Andrew, Wren, and Kieran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, in 2000 and his father, John, in 1971. A funeral service took place at the Mortensen Funeral Home in Central Lake on Monday, May 7 at 11 a.m.. Tom's family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, May 6 from 2 to 4:and 6 to -8 p.m. and prior to the funeral on Monday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for his beloved daughter, Megan.
