The Eagles couldn't quite catch up to meet champion, Marion, as those Eagles soared to the title by scoring 102 points. Bellaire's birds were just short with 93. Fairview was third with 92.

Still, it was an awesome day for Burry.

Despite bucking a headwind that at times gusted to 20 miles per hour, or more, Burry outclassed the field in the 110-meter high hurdles.

He won that event in a time of 15.97 seconds, which left the second place finisher seeing only the Eagle runner's cleats in a time of 17.14. Not to be outdone, Burry turned to the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and again was showing his heels to the rest of the field, finishing in a time of 42.68 seconds.

The second place time was 45.44.

It left a clear and unmistakable message that Burry will be a force to reckon with when the regional competition rolls around in just under two weeks.

And those weren't the only first places to be recorded by the Eagles of Bellaire on this day, either.

Clark Fillmore showed that he definitely has designs on qualifying for the state championships with a first place finish in the 200-meter dash. But, his victory was considerably more difficult to attain, as he had a Fairview runner nipping at his heels all the way.

Fillmore managed to hit the tape ahead of the Fairview runner, finishing in a time of 24.02 seconds to win by only .07 of a second in one of the more thrilling races of the day.

Donavan Dawson trailed behind Burry in the 110 hurdles, finishing seventh in a time of 19 seconds. Fillmore also picked up a third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.84 seconds. In the girls meet, Bellaire was 15th. Beal City won with 124.5 points, and Marion took second with 97.

Bellaire's boys finished fourth in the Heidi Steiner Memorial meet held on Monday, April 30. The Eagles scored 75.6 points. Charlevoix won, tallying 144 and Kingsley was second with 107.

As usual, Burry dominated the hurdle events, winning the 110 highs in 15.17 seconds and the 300 intermediates in 42.17 seconds. Fillmore was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.13 seconds, and he finished fourth in the 100meter dash with a time of 11.36 seconds.

Ethan Murry took second place in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 6.5 inches.

Donald Czajkowski was fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.62 seconds. Fillmore took in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.13 seconds.
