MANCELONA - Snow
is great for skiing, sun is
great for golf - but Antrim
County has been somewhere
in-between the past
few months.
Quick glimpses of decent
weather, often were rebuffed
with cold and rain.
Leaving the golf courses
and other attractions empty.
No snow, but not much sun.
Last weekend though,
warm weather returned,
bringing back visitors and
jump-starting summer activities,
as well as revenues
for local businesses.
Mike Mooney, assistant
golf professional at Shanty
Creek, says last week and
weekend, looked promising.
"We had a pretty good response
once the weather
turned," Mooney said.
"We've been running specials
and whatnot, trying to
get people up here and see
Shanty Creek again. We've
had a very good reception."
He added the recent
weather turned, bodes well
for the next few weeks.
"Our next few weeks, are
filling up nicely," Mooney
said. "Obviously snow helps
us with our winter season,
but as long as winter ends
when it's supposed to, we're
all right.
"When winter carries
over a little longer, it makes
it harder to get the courses
ready to play and people to
come."
Also benefitting from the
weather turn, was Bellaire's
annual 3-on-3 basketball
tournament, which flourished
in sunny weather Sunday.
With the Memorial Day
this weekend, there are several
other groups in Antrim
County hoping warm
weather will stick around, at
least until Tuesday.
* The 56th annual Alden
Memorial Day Parade and
Memorial Services start at
noon Monday. The parade
proceeds from the community
center to Depot Park.
The American Legion color
Guard leads the parade,
along with decorated military
veterans.

the annual Memorial

visiting to pay respects at
five local cemeteries, before
the parade.

Parade and Ceremony. Assembly
begins at 8:30 a.m.,
at Dairy Queen. The march

the group goes to the Catholic
cemetery and Alba for
the final ceremony.
