Melvin was born April 22, 1948 in Vennscens, Indiana, the son of Robert and Helen (Tewell) Harcourt.

He served his country with the US Army in the Vietnam War.

On March 14, 1972 in Lakeland, Florida, he married Andra L. Skaggs who survives. They moved to Mancelona in 2000 where they were members of the Antrim Church of Christ.

Surviving along with his wife Andra, are four children, John (Ferol) Skaggs of Rapid City, Melvia (William) Tyson of Bartow, Fla., Michael (Christina) Harcourt of Mancelona, Cynthia (Gerald) Fahrenback of Lakeland, Fla., two sisters, Thelma Meloling of Gaylord, Genevieve Crosslan of Cascade, Wis., three brothers, Arthur Harcourt of Lakeland, Fla., Edwin (June) Harcourt of Sheboygan, Wis., William (Lois) Harcourt of Sebewaing, a brother in law Tony Martinez of Mills, Wyoming, a step mother Betty Kritzman of Grayling, two step sisters Rebecca Jones of Elkhart, Ind., Kelly Harcourt of Houghton Lake, a step brother Robert Harcourt of Houghton Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald and two sisters Patricia Martinez and Roberta Greeno.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with Pastor Mark McCool officiating.
