Onaway finished ahead of the Lancers in third place by just one-half point, scoring 68.5. Harbor Springs won the title with 110.5 points, adn Mio took second with 98.

Howes uncorked a throw of 118 feet, 10 inches to win the discus event and thus qualify for the state championships on Saturday, June 2. The Lancers also captured a regional title in the 3200-meter relay as the crew of Burton Jones, Jared Danbert, Ashton Fisher and Justin Weis combined for a time of 8:32.52.

Fisher picked up an individual regional gold medal in the 3200-meter run as well, finishing the race in a time of 10:16.30.

But the Lancers weren't finished there, either.

Danbert finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.62, and qualified for state.

Fisher also had a second place in the 1600-meter run, hitting the finish line in a time of 4:33.44, just off the first place pace of regional champion Trey Graham of Harbor Springs, who won in a time of 4:32.33.

Ellsworth also picked up a third place in the 110-meter high hurdles, where Dustin Flory finished in a time of 16.37 seconds. Flory was fourth in the 300meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 44.72 seconds.

The girls team was 11th overall in the team standings, tallying 26 points. None of the Lancers qualified for state competition, but the 3200-meter relay team of Kelcie Drenth, Anna Eggenbrecht, Courtney Howes and Maggie Piellusch was fourth in a time of 10:42.89.

Piellusch had an individual fourth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.34, and Haley Drenth took a fifth place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:38.
