"We hit the ball well tonight," Mancelona coach Chandra LaPointe. We had 10 hits in both games and several that were hit hard enough for someone to score, or cause the defense to make an error." Thursday, the Ironmen hosted Elk Rapids and their bats weren't as active. The Elks defeated Mancelona 4-0 and 12-1. Alex Jennings pitched a no-hitter in the opener for Elk Rapids. The Ironmen managed just three walks and two stolen bases for offense. Jennings also pitched the second game, this time, allowing just one hit and one walk. LaPointe says a combination of good pitching and windy conditions, played havoc with the Ironmen. "The wind was pretty bad, it was blowing towards homeplate and made it difficult to judge fly balls," LaPointe said. "It was killing everything hit to the outfield." Mancelona hosts district play Saturday, opening against East Jordan. |
