The Central Lake baseball team defeated Bellaire in the opening round of districts Saturday, then went on to beat Gaylord St. Mary's in the district final in extra innings.

Brent Patton faced off with Bellaire's Rob Fischer in the opener, both pitchers throw a complete game, going all seven innings. Patton held the Eagles to just two hits, while helping his cause with two hits, runs and RBI. Landong Walker scored three times, getting two hits and stolen bases for the Trojans, in their 7-2 win.

Fischer allowed eight hits and had five strikeouts, he also scored one of the Eagles' two runs.

Russell Rodriguez led Bellaire with two hits, a run scored and a stolen base.

While the opener ended the season for Bellaire, it led Central Lake to a showdown with district host St. Mary's, in the district final.

Ryan Crawley took the mound for the Trojans and had a long outing. He pitched 10 innings for Central Lake, striking out seven.

The game was tied 4- 4 after seven, forcing extra innings, where neither team scored for the first three. Central Lake broke out in the 11th inning, scoring seven runs to take an 11- 4 lead going into the bottom half of the inning.

Patton came in to relieve Crawley, and though he allowed a pair of runs, preserved the win for the Trojans 11- 6. He had another big game from the plate, with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Frank King had three hits and two RBI, and Landon Walker had two hits and RBI.

Starting pitcher Ryan Crawley scored three runs for the Trojans, who advance to the regional at Johannesburg Saturday, to face Harbor Light Christian in the opener. Rudyard faces Rogers City in the other regional semifinal.

Softball Districts

Michelle Edwards had quite a day for the Central Lake softball team Saturday.

Edwards pitched two wins and led the Trojans from the plate, and led them to a district title and a trip to the regionals Saturday.

She went all six innings in the opener against Bellaire, a 5-3 victory. Courtney Keane led the offense with three RBI, while Jessica Spence made noise on the basepaths and in the field.

Spence had three steals in the game, and preserved a Central Lake lead by making a diving catch to avoid two potential Bellaire runs.

Logan Edgecomb pitched for Bellaire, going all six innings, allowing nine hits. She also had an RBI, as did Amanda Rade, while Amanda Shawl had two hits. The win vaulted the Trojans to the district final, to face tournament host Gaylord St. Mary's. Again, Edwards was on top of her game.

This time around, she allowed just three hits, while driving in five runs on two hits. Spence was again a big producer, getting three hits, RBI and stolen bases, in Central Lake's 13-3 win.

Tricia Joyce, Bria Patton and Theresa Palka also had RBI for the Trojans, who advance to the Johannesburg regional to face Harbor Light Christian in the opener. Rapid River faces Onaway in the other regional semifinal.
