Local News PUBLISHED:
Village president, Hugh Campbell updated board members on the joint meeting with the Banks Township board, describing it as "a good and productive meeting". The township offered whatever support the village needed to move forward with plans for the new waterfront park, possibly adding another festival that highlights the water and/or waterfront, expanding the pig roast, and the promotion of a route from East Jordan through Ellsworth, and on to Atwood. The hope is that C48 can become designated as a class A road. That along with stimulating signage and other enhancements would result in more people visiting Ellsworth businesses and attractions. Campers at the Wooden Shoe Park will be happy to learn that wireless, highspeed Internet services will be available in the near future. The board voted unanimously to spend the $100 for its installation. The Planning Commission presented the new Master Plan for the township to the board. On a 5-0 vote, the commission was directed to move forward with the next step in the updating of that plan. To allow for an expansion of their business activities, president Campbell informed the board that the Farmer's Exchange will be requesting that an Industrial Development District be set up for their property in the village. There will be more discussion on this topic at the July meeting. As a way to clean up $4,772 in delinquent water bills, the board voted to submit them to the county. This will eventuate in liens being placed on the corresponding summer tax bills. Next month's meeting will be July 9th. |
