Zachary Solomon was born Aug. 7th, 2006, three months
early, weighing only 2 pounds, 5.5 ounces. Zachary has a disease
that causes the small bowel to die. The critical transplant
he needs to survive can cost as much as $800,000. The community
of Alden, Mich., and wildlife photographers Carl R. Sams
II and Jean Stoick are uniting to help save this young life.
With a backdrop of festive tropical music during Thursday
night's summertime Alden Stroll, on July 5, Sams and Stoick
will sign their best-selling children's books, Stranger in the
Woods and Lost in the Woods at Carter Candles owned by
Zachary's grandparents, Fletcher and Penny Carter. Fifty percent
of the proceeds will be donated to a fund for Zachary established
with the Children's Organ Transplant Association
COTA).
"We're glad to be a part of this. Jeanie and I are always glad
when we can use our books and movies to help kids,"Sams
said.
The couple's books and movies have won dozens of prestigious
awards. Lost in the Woods: The Movie, most recently won
the Wildscreen Panda Award for the best children's wildlife film
world-wide. The movie will be playing during the book signing
complete with live video and original toe-tapping music.
"We have just been overwhelmed by the heartwarming generosity
of individuals in the community,"said Fletcher Carter.
"People have been like angels on Earth,"added his wife,
Penny Carter.
