The players statistical information is a significant part of the process.

But, it's not everything. Coaches look for the intangibles as well. How does a player interact with teammates? Are they vocal leaders on the field? Do they step up and deliver in clutch situations - in the field, at the plate or on the mound?

So after carefully weighing all of these factors, the coaches make their decisions, and hope they got it right.

Occasionally, their selections are questioned. Not everyone can be named to the First Team, or the Second Team. A few deserving athletes might not recognized. It was under such circumstances that the Ski Valley Conference softball and baseball coaches got together to hand out this year's honors.

Bellaire senior Aubrey Hocking, and sophomore Maggie Shanahan of Mancelona were selected to the First Team. Bellaire finished third in the league.

Two Eagles received Second Team honors, junior Logan Edgecomb and senior Kristine Vliet. Also named to the Second Team was the Ironmen's Theresa Petersen (a senior).

Honorable Mention picks were Bellaire's Megan Comben (sophomore) and Amanda Rade (sophomore), Central Lake's Tricia Joyce (senior) and Jessica Spence (senior) and Mancelona's Brooke Orman (sophomore). Kayla Helsel of Forest Area was also selected to the Second Team, while the Warriors' Alison Garett and Samantha Hass received Honorbale Mention status.

Other First Team picks included Gaylord St. Mary's Aimee Isaacson, Amanda Beebe of Inland Lakes, Onaway's Traci Amyotte, Danielle Chapman and Serena Green, and Pellston's Jill McNitt, Holly Burkhart and Kelsey Kirsch.

Second Team honors also were given to Abi Brink of Gaylord St. Mary, Jordan Smeltzer and Megan Singleton of Inland Lakes, Taylor Ollanketo of Johannesburg- Lewiston, Onaway's Christy Kowalski and Pellston's Katelyn LaCost.
