Carolyn J. Cook



Resident Carolyn J. Cook died Sept. 2 in her assisted living residence in Traverse City, where she had lived since March. She was 83. The cause of death was cancer, according to her daughter Caren S. Culver of Bellaire.

Mrs. Cook was born to the late Howard and Luella Bedell on July 2, 1924, at her grandparents' farm in Forest Home Twp., west of Bellaire. She was raised in Boyne City and graduated from its high school. In 1942, she married the late Gerald Crittenden, and they had four children: Ronald (Corinne)of Dexter, Caren Culver (Rick)of Bellaire, Jill of Bellaire and Jeri Lynn of Monterey, Calif. All survive her.

On June 21, 1958, she married the late Harry T. Cook, then a well-known attorney in Bellaire. Mrs. Cook's surviving stepchildren are Harry II (Susan)of Royal Oak, Endl Crane (James)of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada; and Cameron Lacy (Bruce)of Bellaire. Survivors include a granddaughter, Jennifer Szelega (Michael)of Lansing and a great-granddaughter, Brittani Miszkiewicz, a student at Alma College.

She is also survived by stepgrandchildren Andrew and Matthew Pope (Su Ling)of Canada; Robert Cook (Elizabeth)and two children of Iowa City, Iowa; Martin Cook (Christine)and two daughters of Memphis, Mich.; Sarah Cook of Washington, D.C.; Max Cook of Royal Oak; Erik Bates (Brooke)and their three sons of Bellaire; William and Patricia Drollinger of Bellaire and their daughter; and Kimberly Cannon (Jerry)and their daughters of Greenville, Mich.

A brother, Norman Bedell, preceded her in death. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Dorothea Bedell of State College, Penn., and nieces, Deborah Eilbacher (Albert)of Bel Air, Md., and their son; and Cynthia Bedell (Guillermo)of Louisville, Colo.

A memorial wake will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Bellaire Senior Center, 308 E. Cayuga, Bellaire.
