Charles W. Stanek



Charles W. Stanek, 82, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007 at his home at the Stanek Family Centennial Farm in Jordan Township, Antrim County.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Stanek Farm. Chaplain Ronald Klooster officiated. Interment followed at Brown Cemetery.

He was born March 22, 1925 at the family farm, the son of Charles J. and Mamie Lou (Shepard) Stanek. He graduated from East Jordan High School in 1943.

On June 28, 1947 in East Jordan, Michigan, he married Leona R. Peck. Charles was a farmer all of his life until he became ill about a month ago. Charles enjoyed hunting, camping and working on the farm. During his lifetime, Charles worked at a sawmill he co-owned with his father-in-law. He also worked at the US Plywood Plant in Gaylord. Charlie was active in local government, holding the offices of township supervisor and clerk of Jordan Township. He also served on the East Jordan Co-Operative Board.

Charles is survived by his wife, Leona R. Stanek of East Jordan; five children, Barb (Jay) Imel of East Jordan, Bonnie (Ron) Olund of East Jordan, Betsy (Rick) Olund of East Jordan, Chuck (Laurie) Stanek of East Jordan and Chonnie (Dale) Holzschu of Gaylord; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Reed of East Jordan; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kelly Anne Imel in 1971; and two sisters, Agnes Darbee in 1994 and Lucille Jenkins-Dodge in 2007.

Memorials may be given to the Hospice of the Straits, 761 Lafayette, Cheboygan, MI 49721. The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
