Joseph was born December 1, 1930, in Central Lake to Donald and Ethelyn (Parsons) Buhland.

He was a life long resident of Antrim County. He worked for Steiner Construction for 17 years and then as a self-employed carpenter for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.

On June 24, 1951 in Bellaire, he married Mary Jo Brake who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Joseph is survived by two children, Fred (Marge) Buhland of Elmira and Cindy (Wes) Hoeksema of Central Lake. He is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Cummings of Lapeer, Carrie Graham of Traverse City and Donna Maylowski of Levering; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, 11 a.m., at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, with Rev. Mary Brown officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Custer Township. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grass River Natural Area.
