Sports PUBLISHED:
Entering the game undefeated at 3-0, and hoping to remain that way to forge a tie with the Mancelona Ironmen atop the Ski Valley Conference standings, the Trojans hit a speed bump against Inland Lakes. With running back Alex Holton emerging as the game's star, despite the slippery field conditions because of the rain, the Bobcats stunned the Trojans for a 32-8 victory. It was the Bobcats' second straight win of the season, and snapped the Trojans' three-game winning streak ... as well as dropped them to 2-1 in the conference and out of a potential first place tie with Mancelona. Although they keyed on Holton defensively, the Trojans were never able to truly stop him. They paid the price, too. Holton was almost a one-man wrecking crew for the Bobcats, scoring twice on pass plays from quarterback Doug Elliott. They went for 29 and 7 yards, respectively. When he wasn't catching touchdown passes, Holton was pounding the ball on the ground, finishing the game with 250 yards rushing and two touchdowns (38 and 40 yards). For good measure, he ran in a two-point conversion. Travis Rogers led the Trojans with 75 yards rushing and a touchdown. He also topped the defensive charts for Central Lake with 12 tackles. That included two sacks and an interception. Zach Light had 10 tackles, Nolan Howes made 6 stops and Jared Steenwyk intercepted a pass.Ê |
