Mancelona Ironwomen spike St. Mary



MANCELONA - The Mancelona girls volleyball team scored a big Ski Valley Conference win last Tuesday with a three-game sweep of rival Gaylord St. Mary. The Ironwomen dispatched of the Snowbirds 25-23, 25-16 and 25-12.

"The chemistry returned," head coach Connie Brigham said. "It was a total team effort. All our players played and contributed to the victory."

Mancelona limited their unforced errors against the Snowbirds, achieving an attack rate of 82.9%. "The team moved well, and we were able to keep our spikes in," Brigham said. "Tiffany Grody did especially well at serve receive with no errors."

Brittany Miller was 16-of-19 serving with eight assists and nine digs. Carilynn Huffman was nine-of-10 serving with two assists, one kill and four digs. Desiree Brandt was eight-of-nine serving and contributed two assists, one kill and seven digs.

The victory moves Mancelona's record up to 2-3 in the conference and 4-5-2 overall. They were in action last night against Forest Area at home and will host Onaway on Thursday (tomorrow) at 6 p.m.
